NEW NOSTALGIA is a refurbished vintage clothing company that sells unique and affordable treasures. The Brothers Cook rework their favorite finds by salvaging different fabrics and parts to create new designs.
Art pop/rock quartet The Ceremonies are composed of LA based brothers Matthew, Mark, and Michael Cook, along with family friend Kane Ritchotte. The Ceremonies’ sound and look has been described as ‘80s New Wave nostalgia meets cutting-edge alternative rock with a look often described as “Greaser Grunge.” The group indulges in multimedia creations, often releasing drawings, paintings, and poems painted on NEW NOSTALGIA apparel.
As lovers of conceptual and abstract art, Michael and Matthew attended art school at the Roski school of Art and Design. “We cross-breed the grunge rock and throwback oldies aesthetic by adding visual art to our clothing, each piece hand done” says Michael. “We’ve created a sense of communion through music and style,” adds Matt.
Each piece is hand selected from The Brothers Cook, that go through professional cleaning and restoration. After passing quality inspection, they rework and salvage the materials used, individually creating a contemporary yet classic design.
“Everything’s a piece of art, whether you believe it or not—From the computer you’re reading this on, to the desk that the computer is sitting on is art. Your body and the clothing you are wearing is just another medium to express yourself, so why not stick out?” says Michael. The group try to transcend their influences and create something entirely their own, not only with their music, but their look as well. “Vintage clothing has a story, a feeling, a history to it,” adds Mark. Whether The Ceremonies are recording soaring harmonies in the studio or performing a live shows, you can always count on some type of art to be created in their spare time.
